This is my first ever YouTube video and watching it again I am still so proud of it. Yes, it is a little sloppy, crusty, and rough around the edges but it is my start. As I look back two years later I couldn't be more proud of my growth. This was the start of my journey of widening the concept of a True Crime story.
Launching my true crime channel on YouTube after a year of planning was truly an exciting venture. Beyond captivating crime narratives, I wanted to challenge historical myths that have shaped our understanding of the past.
In my debut video, I exposed the unsettling truth about George Washington's dentures—they were crafted from the teeth of his slaves, challenging not only historical accuracy but also the moral character of our revered figures. Beyond Washington, I scrutinized the flaws of the founding fathers, questioning the sanitized version of history that portrays them as moral paragons. These ideas prevent us from having a genuine conversation about the past so this country can heal its festering wounds.
Drawing parallels between historical myth-making and the January 6th insurrection, I shared my real-time experience of the events while reacting to the documentary “4 Hours at the Capital” by HBO Max. The shock and disbelief I felt as supporters breached the U.S. Capitol fueled my frustration with attempts to downplay the insurrection's significance. It becomes a poignant reflection on media coverage, political narratives, and the impact of historical events on contemporary perspectives.
My true crime journey goes beyond conventional boundaries, urging viewers to explore societal issues like the lack of funding in inner-city schools and environmental racism. This channel became a platform for thought-provoking discussions, inviting viewers to engage with the complexities of our shared history and present reality.
As we navigate the terrain of historical truths and contemporary challenges, my channel unveils truths that resonate across time. It's more than uncovering stories; it's about broadening perspectives and confronting the complexities of our collective narrative.
