Hello, My Loves!
We’re back with another edition of “Social Tips for a Lazy Bitch”! Let’s keep it simple and dive straight into the next tip!
Bitch Be Humble…Sit Down:
YOU AIN’T NO DIVAAA. But honestly, you need to be real about your skill level and create content that matches it. A lot of people see makeup creators online and think, “I do makeup, I could do that,” but the reality is, their skills aren’t quite there yet. Content creation can be whatever you want it to be, but if you want it to be genuine, you’ve got to be real with yourself.
I like using makeup as an example because I remember the boom of the makeup community on YouTube so vividly. A lot of people thought they were about to cash in, not realizing their skills weren’t up to par for makeup tutorials. They could still be part of the makeup space, no problem, but the way they approached their content wasn’t on brand.
If you want me to watch your content seriously and you’re doing a 2010 “Christmas look” with red in your crease, green on your lid, and candy cane stickers on the side of your eye—bitch, it’s a chop for me. If you love makeup but aren’t a pro, think about the content you can actually create. Approach it as the novice you are and see how your views change.
“Watch me become amazing at makeup in a year.”
“Girl who doesn’t know how to do makeup trying to follow a tutorial.”
“Doing one makeup look a day for a year straight to film my progress.”
These types of videos would get way more genuine views, and your community would be way more forgiving, understanding, and trusting of you. You’d still get the same brand deals as the other makeup girls, but by being authentic, people would connect with your content more. There’s not just one way to become a makeup content creator—think about your channel more deeply. Be honest with yourself, and step out of the box.
Love,
The Swan
