Make your content creation about something you’d be doing for free in your room. Create content around things you’re genuinely interested in. Here’s the hard truth about content creation: it’s a thankless job. Sometimes, you’ll be performing to no audience. You won’t see the results of all your hard work for a while. Even when you hit milestones, you’ll quickly realize that you’ve just unlocked another level in the game, which means learning new skills to keep leveling up.
Since this is basically a delayed gratification situation, you have to be fully invested in the content you make. A lot of people will tell you to lose your authenticity by assuming a “marketable” personality, a proven concept that gets views. But that’s often not the real you. You’re letting the experience shape you, rather than shaping the experience yourself.
If you’re obsessed with 90s cartoons and watch them all the time, make content about that. If you love gardening, cooking, cleaning, or being a mom (without exploiting your kids), make content around that. If gaming is your thing, make content around that. People connect with you based on how much they can relate to your experiences. They don’t just want a perfect product—they want to see the real you. Show your humanity through your content. Nothing beats authenticity.
