Whew… March has been one of those extremely eventful months, with extremely positive things and some annoyingly negative things happening. Despite that, I remain super grateful and happy. One of the biggest things that happened this month was the fact that I FINALLY crossed over the threshold of 10,000 SUBSCRIBERS on YOUTUBE! It's an absolutely unbelievable feeling that I still cannot believe happened. Yes, I have been working towards this moment for the past two years, but after I took an 8-month break in year two, I knew reaching that goal would be somewhat delayed… but she did it!
I have also been getting great feedback on the “Bloodstained Podcast” in general. I am still learning so much, but it has been the single most exciting and pleasurable thing in my life for the past year, something I am truly doing for myself, something I am so proud of. If you have not listened to the podcast, the first two episodes are out now. You can find both the video and the audio for both episodes in my Substack posts. Please do not hesitate to comment and give me much-needed feedback on the content, please, constructive critiques only!!
Lastly, my car of nearly seven years is OVER. She was a 2001 red Honda CRV that I drove into the ground, her name was Old Bessie and I will miss her so much. 23 years young, she was an incredible car to whomever owned her. For the time being, I am carless, which is humbling to say the least, but I am vibing with the universe telling me to sit my ass down and work hard on producing content for the people. So I will listen and lean in. RIP OLD BESSIE, I will miss you, so many grand memories in that car
Life: “Life is Lifeing”
This month has been a true test of my emotions, and I am so proud of myself with how easily I have been going with the flow. I have been carless for a month now in LA, mind you, and you know what, it is kinda freeing. I just want to shout out my incredible family and friends who love and support me and have been driving my annoying ass everywhere. I feel like I’m in high school again taking the freaking metro, but hey, Imma rebrand my current brokenness and lack of car for me being environmentally sustainable; you bitches could NEVER!!
Health: “Getting Trim!”
As a result of my current carlessness situation, I am forced to rely on three means of transportation.
My Family/Friends
The LA Metro System
My god-given legs
And you know what walking over 10,000 steps a day does? It gets you right on many fronts, mentally and physically. As I have spoken about in previous Hyper-fixation posts, I am focused this year on losing the grief/depression/weight that has been compounding since 2018. This is the first year that I am actually staying consistent and seeing the results I want without having completely unhealthy unrealistic expectations of losing the weight. My brokenness and subsequent carlessness win again, people!
Food: “GREEK YOGURT PEOPLE”
Not to be dramatic, but Greek yogurt in the morning with another protein like a boiled egg or turkey sausage has completely changed my relationship with food. I used to be the no breakfast girl, but I have rebranded to a black coffee with mushroom extract, vitamin, protein-packed breakfast queen, and I am not looking back. This is the cheat code, I swear. Year 28 has been about growth, confrontation, and healing, and that has included tackling my binge-eating issues! Maybe next month I’ll add in my progress pictures!
Music: “REAL RAP IS BACK BABY!!"
Can we take a moment to discuss the current state of Hip Hop currently, and how much fun it is! I have been completely obsessed with all the musical beef going on, and I just want to take a moment to shout out Rick Ross for my FAVORITE Music moment this month. If you do not know that rap boys are beefing, it seems very much directed at Drake (who has annoyed me to no end for years btw). A couple of weeks ago Drake finally released his response to all the rap dude in the industry, his much-anticipated response to Kendrick’s “Like That” verse, and before anyone could even breathe, Rick Ross snuck in and stole the day completely from him. In less than 2 hours, he dropped a CLASSIC diss record and stomped on the boy’s release. I LOVED IT! If you have not heard it, check it out below… ICONIC.
Podcasts: “DEMOCRACY NOW ONLY BABY”
Now, I am well aware that Democracy Now is an independent news organization, but I promise you, they have been doing incredible work accurately reporting on what has been going on in Palestine, and I desperately need to shout them out here. They come out with a podcast episode daily that covers in-depth world news, and it has been my saving grace with staying informed with what’s going on both domestically and internationally. I think after October 7th I realized so many of the news outlets I had depended on were actually just State TV, Democracy Now is the only one that has stuck around for the long haul, and I will remain a loyal listener for the rest of my life. If you have not already, look deeply at the news outlets you depend on and make sure they are telling you what you need to know. As things begin to deteriorate, reliable news sources will be your saving grace.
Movies: “MONKEY MAN!”
If you have not gone to see Monkey Man by the beloved Dev Patel yet, you are literally missing one of the most incredible movies this year. Produced, of course, by Jordan Peele and Monkey Paw productions, this movie has it all. Especially with what is going on in Palestine currently, it is something that needs to be seen, the plight of all indigenous communities globally. When I went on my monthly visit with my Boyfriend Marlo, we made a point to watch this movie, and it was awe-inspiring. Do me a favor and try your best to see this movie in the theaters, I promise you it is worth it, come back here and comment what you think about it on this post!
Third Spaces Updates: “LIBRARIES PEOPLE”
So this is going to be a new section that I add to my monthly hyper-fixation posts, but I need to brag a bit. I am in a BIPOC SciFi book club that is put on by a local bookstore called “Octavia’s Bookshelf,” the Huntington Library, and the Pasadena Library. It is a free-to-join incredible book club where we discuss sci-fi written by BIPOC people centering around the work of the Late great Octavia Butler, whose work is more important than ever. Look at your local libraries and see what events or clubs they have available in your community. I have been going since last August, and it has been the singular most important thing I have been committing to in 2024. 10/10 highly recommend.
