As promised this is my series where I let you know what I am obsessed with for the month. Obviously this blog post is coming out late, but better late than never. I grew up on old Youtube where your favorite online personality would do a video once a month called “Monthly Favorites”. Where they would tell you all the items they were loving during that month, this is my version!
My version will not be limited to things you can purchase, it will include, books, podcast recs., movie recs., food, vibes. Everything that was IN for the month. So lets get into my January Hyperfixations!
LIFE: Putting Effort into your Birthday:
-After my parents divorced when I was 19 years old, celebrating holidays and birthdays has been a complete after thought. I just stopped putting effort in to planning anything for me to do and of course every birthday after my 19th birthday has made me feel sad. I no longer want to be Sad Birthday girl. For my 28th birthday this year I did something simple, all of my friends that were local cooked a meal with me, it was a PJ party with a cake and everything. It was honestly one of the best Birthday’s I have had in almost ten years, allowing happiness and love to fill my heart. Allowing my community to show up for me made me realize that I need to show up for me.
HEALTH: Crowding Out/Mindfulness:
-The crowding out method is a new way i stumbled upon to clear out bad habits. By making an effort to choose healthier options for what I consume in all aspects, leaves very little room for unhealthy choices to be made. I am truly trying to get stronger and healthier than I have ever been in my adult life. So adding in things to my daily routine and checking in with self to see how I feel about it is what my 28th year is all about. This week I am going to start waking up early and stretching my body for at least 30 mins in the morning. I have used this method to quit smoking and to add in a vitamin routine, oil pulling routine, and a better skin care routine. Lets see what else I crowd out in the next few months.
FOOD: Sardines:
-What is understood does not need to be explained, grow up and understand that Sardines are the SHIT! Eating Sardines remind me of my Grandma Gigi, she would also feed us sardines and rice a simple, healthy, delicious meal that has stuck to me. Grow up and try it, it promise its worth it.
MUSIC: The Rapture-Bbyafricka:
-I have been absolutely bumping this album for the past month and there is no hope that I will be stopping. No skips, full of bangers. We love Bbyafricka in this house hold.
PODCAST: BlowBack Season 1:
-If you want to understand why I am trying to do what I am currently trying to do with “Bloodstained” then listen to the “BlowBack” podcast. Season 1 is a much needed deep dive into the 2003 War in Iraq that a late 90’s baby such as my self desperately needed. If you are confused as to what is happening now in Palestine, this would be a good podcast to listen to to understand the depth of depravity and corruption our government promotes internationally.
MOVIE: Tales of the Grim Sleeper:
-Calling all the True Crime Lovers to the front, this documentary will make your blood run cold. Real stories, real people, and raw experiences make this documentary an incredible watch. It is available for free on YouTube and I will link it below. Watch Here
I love your low-key birthday idea! I don't have any sort of birthday trauma, but the idea of planning/throwing a birthday party gives me so much anxiety. I've just kind of let my birthday slide or spent it with one other person most years. I'll have to try a little super low pressure dinner thing this year :)
