Bloodstained Podcast S1 Ep.0: "So, You Wanna Know Why Black People Are Angry?"
The introductory episode to the Bloodstained Podcast
Have you ever heard someone say that before? “Slavery Was Never About Race.” This statement seems to always come out of the lips of the worst person you know. The person that insists on playing the “Devil’s Advocate” in political conversations because they are too cowardly to publicly stand behind their problematic beliefs…..yeah that person. Well this episode is a response to that person, and the perfect way jump into the Bloodstained Podcast.
This is an introduction to what I have been working on for the past 8 months. A true labor of love that has humbled me and challenged me countless times. I have pushed back the release date time and time again because I am so nervous, but it is finally time to let go.
Bloodstained is the result of a 28 year old black women, with an expensive BA in Sociology I am trying to pay off attempting to make sense of the world around her. A podcast with a mission to use the age old sociological trick of decontextualization, with the hopes of finding new meaning. In this case, we will be taking historical moments, trends, and institutions and looking at them through the lens of True Crime.
History is only a story that exposes the depth of cruelty we insist on inflicting on each other. Making it, in my opinion, one of the most gruesome True Crime stories ever told.
Season one is about Slavery as a True Crime story. Over the course of 2024 we will continue to dissect hyper-specific aspects of slavery and look at them under a microscope. Each month a new video tackling a new topic.
Episode 0 is purely foundational with the goal of providing historical context for the months to come. We discuss the different ways the institution of Slavery has existed through history and more specifically discuss the 1300 year long Arab Slave Trade.
You may think Slavery was never about race, but the facts do not lie. Everything is about race.
Welcome to Bloodstained, class is in session.
